Contrary to what you may read on the Internet, the world is not going to end in 2012. A rogue planet named Nibiru is not on a collision course with Earth. And a solar flare won't toast the planet. It's all fiction, though the makers of the film "2012" may lead you to think otherwise. "I don't have anything against the movie. It's the way it's been marketed and the way it exploits people's fears," NASA scientist David Morrison at the Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif., told Discovery News.

Morrison has launched a counter-attack through his "Ask An Astrobiologist" online column, which he says has gotten more than 1,000 questions about the end of the world. Scientific misinformation about 2012 has been ramping up for a few years, with more than 200 books and 1,000 Web sites purporting to explain various doomsday scenarios. Sony Pictures is behind a particularly viral campaign to build publicity for its upcoming apocalyptic movie "2012," which debuts on Nov. 13.

*Shrug*

I don't see it as the "end of the world"

I just see it as an awakening. Like we're evolving in a way.
Don't walk the world with your mouth hanging open and your mind sealed shut.

Polar shift and the Magnetic Filed going to 0% at this point will be devastating to the planet. The 2012 theory is a huge conspiracy theory, just like Aliens and UFOs. Maybe they will arrive in ships to take us away from it all before it happens who knows? If the poles are going to shift it won't happen over night like the movie 2012 will have us believe.

On the winter solstice in 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years. This special alignment means that the usual energy that typically streams to Earth from the center of the Milky Way will indeed be disrupted on 12/21/12 at 11:11 p.m. But what will this mean to us? Nobody really knows.

The calender in my kitchen ends on December 31st. But I'm pretty sure that doesn't trigger the end of the world. Ill be buying a similar one next year. Maybe get some nice car pictures on it. :dirol:

It's even funnier when you watch 2012 and realize that there is no plot, just Michael Bay explosions and terrifying horrible death.

:D
In an hour of darkness a blind man is the best guide. In an age of Insanity look to the madman to show the way.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
Victory needs no explanation. Defeat allows none.
By the manner of their death we shall know them.
Every human life is a spark in the darkness. it flares for a moment, catches the eye, and is gone forever. An after-image burnt into the eye that fades and is obscured by newer brighter lights.
Those who are your true friends stab you in the chest. Those who are your true enemies stab you in the back.

There has been many instances of prophets saying the world will come to an end, previous dates has been mentioned and those dates came and went without us facing extinction, according to some the world was supposed to end on may 5th 2005 because the planets were in rough alignment. Then there was Y2K which came and went without any trouble.

The only reason people are talking about 2012 is because the Mayan calender ends in 2012 and because of the history channels showings of several programs about Nostradamus.

People say there are more earthquakes, more severe storms which may be true but in my opinion are just down to cycles, we get periods of more activity every so often like we get more activity in solar flares every decade or so, as Ranger1 said there will be an alignment with the centre of the galaxy in 2012 that happens every 26.000 years or so which nostradamus did predict as he was skilled in astronomy and which he called the devine cross and the mundane cross which both align in 2012 and as Ranger1 said no one knows what effect this will have if any.

This Astrolbiologist is so far of the beaten path!
First of all he has failed at his job of finding potential life on other worlds..
yet we in the USA have had to invest hundreds of BILLIONS of DOLLARS
for him to play around guessing at WHAT?
Now... he is predicting what is not going to happen in 3 years from now
but could not say anything about Haiti's Earthquake?

It was 5 years ago I spoke of it... on my website www.TheVeiledProphet.com ...
and I spoke of the Hundred year Rain Storm that was about to hit
the United Kingdom and the 1,000 year Torrential Rain storm
that HIT them just a couple of months ago...

Where was this MYSTIC, Futuristic know it all,
when it comes to predicting what's going to happen 3 years from now?

He is really missleading the general public when it comes to
anything having to do with an Earth's Wobble!
Saying it is not going to happen... YOUCH!
An Earth's Wobble hits our PLANET every 20,000 years
causing catastophic changes... this has been taking place on exact time
for the past 3 million years... See the HISTORY CHANNEL
'How The Earth Was Made' Saraha Desert showing Jan 19, 2010...
This ASTROBIOLIGOIST own NASA disputes his knowledge of what
he dares to belive he knows anything about... Whew! What a jerk!

This astrobioligist DOES NOT speak for
THE GOVERNMENT of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICANS...

NASA IS AN AGENCY OF OUR GOVERNMENT!
Do you EVER hear him saying.. I speak for NASA.GOV or
the President or Congress... NO YOU DON'T!... And, he does NOT!
