The sci-fi vision of a molecular medical team that can be injected into a patient, coursing through his bloodstream to diagnose a disease and treat it, has taken a step nearer to reality, a study published on Wednesday says. An Israeli team says it has created a computer made of DNA that, in controlled lab conditions, identified lung- and prostate-cancer cells and combatted them with a molecule based on an anti-cancer drug."We constructed a prototype of a medical molecular computer — several trillion such computers can fit in a drop of water — that is able to diagnose disease conditions and release a drug upon positive diagnosis," said Ehud Shapiro, a professor at Israel's Weizmann Institute, who led the team. "Made entirely of biological molecules, this computer was successfully programmed to identify — in a test tube — changes in the balance of molecules in the body that indicate the presence of certain cancers, to diagnose the type of cancer and to react by producing a drug molecule to fight the cancer cells."

If this were to work this would be wonderful. My husband has to go for a prostate biopsy next month to check for prostate caner, as his PSA levels are higher than they should be!
