Click to View all articles in this categoryPublished in the Journal of Near-Death Studies, 25(2), Winter 2006, the paper is titled "A Prospectively Studied Near-Death Experience with Corroborated Out-of-Body Perceptions and Unexplained Healing." The authors are Penny Sartori, Paul Badham, and Peter Fenwick.

Penny Sartori, the lead author and lead investigator, works as a nurse in an intensive care center. As the article explains,

She attempted to verify the out-of-body component of the NDE by placing hidden symbols on top of each patient’s cardiac monitor, attached to the wall beside the bed and above head height.... She also recorded arterial blood sample results taken during the period of unconsciousness when the NDE was assumed to have occurred and any drugs administered. This was to explore...

Friday, 8 October 2004

Click to View all articles in this categoryA WELSH nurse believes she is close to answering the age-old question of what happens to us once we die. For the past five years, Penny Sartori, from Swansea, has been researching near-death experiences among critically ill patients in the city's Morriston Hospital Intensive Care Unit. And at the end of the five- year study, the most comprehensive of its type ever done, the 32-year-old says she has evidence to show that when people are declared clinically dead, their minds remain active. She has 15 accounts from people that suggest there could be some kind of life after death. Now the findings will be used by Dr Peter Fenwick, an internationally renowned neuro-psychiatrist and Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, who isconducting research into the subject across...

Heaven Can Wait Collapse
Tuesday, 21 September 2004

Click to View all articles in this categorySome people in KELOLAND say they personally have found the answer to life's ultimate mystery: what happens to us after we die. They claim to have actually passed away, only to be brought back among the living, changed forever by their near-death experience. Now they're sharing their stories of journeying to the "other side" through a new support group in Sioux Falls. "And it came up almost right on top of me and I was very terrified." "I could feel other beings around, I couldn't see them, I could feel them." "And at that point I accepted my death." "It was a sense of wondering and freedom, being away from and out of your body." "It was peaceful, very peaceful, and the fear went away." Bill Schuyler and...

The stunning Hollywood actress suffered from the condition three years ago and despite making a full recovery she admits the experience changed her life. What follows death? Collapse
Monday, 28 June 2004

Click to View all articles in this categoryTime will come, and each person will be able to see if his/her ideas what follows death are true. However, people are eager to know about afterlife in advance, while they are alive. The only chance for us to look beyond death is listening to the stories of the people who was there. Raimond Modi, the classic of the stories on life after death, analyzed the experience of 4,000 people who had had clinical death, in his famous book "Life after Life". The analysis demonstrated that another life can exist after death. In the beginning of the 20th century famous German doctor Berndt decided to find out what people feel after death. The doctor researched the people who experienced clinical deaths, or those being on the brink between life and death for a long time. According to...

Darkness, Tunnels, and Light Collapse
Friday, 18 June 2004

Click to View all articles in this categoryDarkness, tunnels, and light are wondrous phenomena sometimes reported by the dying, as well as those recovering from near-death experiences (NDEs). These experiences have been reported since antiquity. Along with many others, I first learned of these experiences from a film I saw in 1990 called Flatliners. The film showed amazing and improbable medical apparati used in an equally improbable and dramatic location. Even so, I was stimulated to read more, and became fascinated by the possible physiology of all aspects of NDEs. I am a physician specializing in anesthesiology, and have worked as a consultant anesthesiologist in Holland since 1980. An anesthesiologist is not someone who just knocks patients out, sits down, opens a newspaper, and waits for the surgeon to finish his work;...

Taking Life's Final Exit Collapse
Tuesday, 15 June 2004

Click to View all articles in this categoryMy brother took more trains, planes and automobiles in the last week of his life than he had taken in months, perhaps years. Those journeys were all the more surprising because they occurred in an intensive-care unit at the end of his three-year battle with bone marrow cancer. Bedridden after being rushed to the hospital for what would be the final eight days of his life, Kenny casually mentioned that he was visiting Detroit. It was a rather odd place for him to be traveling — even if only in his imagination — because the hospital was near home in suburban Philadelphia and he didn't have any ties to the Motor City. But it was near a border, a border he seemed intent on crossing, be it real or metaphoric. "How far is it to Canada?" he wanted to know....

Click to View all articles in this categoryPam Reynolds was intentionally put to death to save her life, and the story she has told of her ‘return’ adds a provocative new chapter to the voluminous case files documenting an entire realm of experience during near-death voyages. To remove an artery aneurysm from her brain, doctors used a rare operative procedure in which Pam’s body temperature was lowered to 60 degrees, her heartbeat and breathing was suspended, and the blood was drained from her head. With her brain waves flattened, she became clinically dead. While in this state of medically-induced limbo Pam experienced one of the deepest and most detailed NDE’s ever recorded.
